CPD - Control of catastrophic haemorrhage with haemostatic dressings and tourniquets

These sessions are aimed at first aid trainers so that they have an in-depth knowledge of the subject. The sessions will be delivered by an experienced Paramedic with military background.

The sessions are being provided free of charge to trainers by the very generous support and services of local First Aid and Medical Equipment suppliers, DS Medical, based in Fareham, and delivered by Celox Academy, who will be training and demonstrating their range of haemostatic products. DS Medical will also have a select range of their products on display, and expert advice available from representatives.

Learners will be taught the skills associated with rapid assessment of trauma injuries, packing techniques and stabilisation of trauma patients.

Course contents

The training includes both theory and practical sessions, designed to develop a good, all round understanding of trauma care and to stop external haemorrhage with Celox haemostatic products and tourniquets.

Proposed timetable of events for the session (subject to last minute changes due to unforeseen circumstances):

09:30 Arrival and registration

09:45 Catastrophic haemorrhage control

  • Recognise & treat catastrophic haemorrhage in accordance with the latest European Resuscitation Council (ERC) 2015 guidelines, and the Health & Safety Executive's (HSE) June 2016 ebulletin
  • Celox haemostatic dressings
  • Tourniquet application (CAT, SOF-T, MAT)
  • Practical and Q&A sessions

11:45 Networking opportunities - bring your business cards!

12:15 Close of session and departure.

Course Duration

2 hours tuition time, not including registration and networking opportunities time.

Certification

Certificates of attendance will be issued following successful completion of this course.

The sessions are Qualsafe Awards endorsed, and should be recognised by all first aid awarding organisations.
