In crowded areas, and on large industrial sites, bicycles can often be the fastest and safest way to respond to emergency calls for first aid, ambulance, security, or police personnel, and they are rapidly gaining in popularity.
We very occasionally have need to use a cycle response team here at RescueSkills, but didn't want to invest large sums of money into a professional blue light system for the bicycles, so we decided to make our own.
We have taken a budget high street front cycle lamp, and using our electronics expertise have improved the internals, and fitted a series of high quality, high intensity brilliant blue LED's.
The light has three modes - fast flash, slow flash (which we find to be the most effective), and constant on.
Comes with a handlebar clamp - fits approx 25mm handlebar as standard, but our handlebars are 22.2mm diameter, and we have found a small piece of thin rubber, or insulating tape helps to pack the clamp and protect the handlebars better.
Powered by 4x AAA batteries (not supplied) which are estimated to last approximately 150 hours.
We have a very small stock of these, and future supplies are in doubt as the suppliers seem to be changing the design of the lamps to less well engineered ones which we will not be able to modify. Get them now while they are in stock!
As the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations specify that the use of a blue flashing light attached to a vehicle must be for "Police, Fire or Ambulance" purposes, we cannot take any responsibility for the actions of persons purchasing these lamps and using them in a non-authorised manner. In the interests of Road Safety and to try to prevent misuse of these items, we reserve the right to seek clarification on the intended use from any purchaser, and may choose to decline the sale of these items if we decide that the use is likely to be illegal or unauthorised.
We have priced the lamps to represent the budget base model of lamp, but with the additional re-engineering involved factored in. If you require a lamp that is guaranteed to withstand constant use, in harsh environments, may we respectfully direct you in the direction of one of the sites selling such equipment.
Power: 5x 6000mcd LED's = 30000mcd (approx) with focussing lenses - enough to let people see you coming (and blind our camera when we tried to take some pictures of the light illuminated!).
