Each year, one of the largest single contributory factors in injury at work continues to be poor manual handling techniques.
Our course in "Principles of Safer Handling" is designed to educate learners in the principles and practices of safer manual handling of objects. It outlines the reasons for safer manual handling, the legal requirements, and informs learners about the process of completing risk assessments to reduce the risk of harm. Learners will get the opportunity to practice the principles of safer manual handling.
The qualification is ideal for all staff who have to carry out manual handling tasks in their place of work. This includes industrial and office based environments. It is suitable as an introduction for those starting work (perhaps as part of their induction process), those returning to work, or simply as safety refresher training.
This short course will educate learners in the basic principles of safer handling techniques. For those requiring a more in-depth knowledge, such as where there are significant amounts of manual handling taking place, or where staff are engaged in supervisory or management roles, it may be beneficial to undertake our more detailed Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling qualification.
Attendance on one of our courses can help your business to demonstrate compliance with legislation such as the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (amended 2002), by educating staff in safer techniques, and incorporating the workforce into your safer workplace strategies.
Our trainers for these courses are all fully qualified trainers, with many years of experience in a Health & Safety background, in different types of industry.

Certification
Certificates of competence will be issued following successful completion of this course by the learners. Assessment of the learners skills will be by continuous assessment by the trainer/assessor.
These certificates are valid for three years, but it is considered best practice for employees to demonstrate their awareness of Manual Handling regularly (typically annually) and/or to undergo regular refresher training, perhaps every 3 years. It remains the employers responsibility to carry out suitable risk assessments and identify their training needs and frequency of re-training from that.
Please note that in order to be awarded a certificate of competence in this course, learners must be able to demonstrate that they are able to perform the relevant skills - it remains the employers responsibility to ensure that learners sent on this course are physically and mentally fit enough to be able to perform the skills that may be required of them during their duties.
Re-Qualification
Learners may re-qualify their Principles of Safer Handling qualification by attending another course at any time as determined by their employers risk assessments, or by progressing on to a higher level course.
