Emergency First Aid for Schools Staff

The "Emergency First Aid for Schools Staff" course is aimed at all staff in schools, and will give confidence and practice in emergency life-saving techniques that are required in situations that may be encountered by those working in a schools environment, and enable them to provide emergency First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation whilst awaiting other more qualified help to arrive.

It is intended that learners that have completed this course will form a front line first response as part of the schools first aid provision which would include the use of the more qualified First Aiders, and those with a paediatric first aid qualification where it is appropriate, as suggested by the Department for Education and Ofsted. The course aims to teach staff how to deal with life threatening conditions whilst awaiting more qualified help, and to recognise when the situation is minor or more serious. It will also give the staff some basic skills that they can use from day to day, and the importance of recording/reporting all incidents that they may have dealt with.

We offer two versions of this course - four hours, or six hours long, with the six hour course extending the syllabus to cover a few more topics often of interest to schools staff. The choice of which course you take may depend on your budget, time constraints, or first aid needs assessments.

It is important to realise that these courses are a brief introduction to first aid, and those attending these courses should not be considered to be first aiders for the school, unless they have also attended a more in-depth course such as First Aid at Work.

The age groups covered on the course will depend on the age profile of the pupils in the school. If you are in a pre-school, with children under 5 years old, you almost certainly will require a member of staff on the premises all the time children are present that has completed a two day Paediatric First Aid course, as laid down by the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

First Aid at Work courses do not normally cover topics involving children, so this course may be used by qualified First Aiders to expand their skills and knowledge to child basic life support techniques.

By prior arrangement, and upon payment of a small additional administration fee, these courses can normally be adjusted slightly to also include updates for qualified First Aiders, satisfying the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 for an annual skills update/refresher, and a second certificate can be issued for these learners where appropriate.

Our trainers are very experienced in schools first aid, having all worked previously for many years with the main approved training provider for Hampshire County Council. We have delivered training to many schools in Hampshire, and into West Sussex and Surrey, including County Council and Unitary Local Authority, and independent schools. Please be assured that we will try to match or better the quality and price of delivery by the big names in First Aid training - remember that more so now than ever before, it is your budget, and you have a right to insist on the best, most cost effective training, on behalf of your pupils and their parents - training that RescueSkills can deliver.

Each student will receive a certificate, a quality reference book each to keep after the course, a quality delivery of the course, and the backup of trainers with a wealth of experience in performing First Aid and in operating in schools.
