Appointed Persons CoursePLEASE NOTE THAT THESE COURSES ARE NOT REGULARLY SCHEDULED NOW DUE TO THE CONTENT BEING CONTAINED WITHIN BOTH THE FIRST AID AT WORK COURSES AND A SUBSEQUENT LACK OF DEMAND The "Appointed Person" course will give learners the knowledge that they require to act as an Appointed Person with regard to the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 (as amended 2013). We have included these courses here mainly for completeness. The term Appointed Person merely refers to that person who is placed in charge of looking after the first aid equipment, accident records, reporting, and dealing with unforeseen accidents/illnesses within the workplace including calling for an ambulance or other appropriate help as necessary. The vast majority of times, this is carried out by a qualified First Aider, and the contents of an appointed persons course are contained within the syllabus of both the First Aid at Work, and the Emergency First Aid at Work courses. Unless a person is designated as a qualified first aider, and has received first aid training, they must not carry out any first aid within the workplace. Historically, prior to the regulation amendments in 2009, there was only the qualification of First Aid at Work, so most training providers offered an Appointed Persons course of 6 hours duration (the minimum specified by the HSE was just 4 hours), and included some emergency first aid in that course - it was deemed that if you were looking after the first aid kit, it would probably be a good idea if you knew what to do with some of the contents! It was ideal for smaller, low-risk businesses that perhaps had no real need for a person to undertake a full First Aid at Work course. With the revamp of the regulations in 2009, this was taken on board by the HSE, who launched the (then) new Emergency First Aid at Work course, which contained the contents of the Appointed Persons course, plus some emergency life-saving first aid content. As you can imagine, with the price of the Appointed Persons course, and the Emergency First Aid course being the same, but now officially recognising the delegates on these courses as qualified Emergency First Aiders, demand for the Appointed Persons course dropped overnight, and most training providers have subsequently stopped providing them nowadays. We no longer schedule these courses, although we can still provide them should there be enough demand. If you specifically feel you need an Appointed Person course, please feel to contact us. Course contentsThe Appointed Persons course covers (as a minimum):
